Chawal Aata Ke Fryums or Rice Flour Chips is a very easy recipe with few ingredients and efforts involved. It is unlike the potato or banana chips which involve peeling, slicing. This recipe just involves rice and few spices/masala. Cook the rice flour with water and spices and then spread the thick mixture on plastic sheet under Sun or inside home under a fan. These chips take 4-5 days for drying (depending on temperature and season). These dried chips can be stored for 7-8 months in air tight container and deep fried whenever required. everyone loves the fryums and they are very delicious.

Rice Flour Chips:


Preparation Time: 5 mins
Cooking Time: 7-8 mins
Drying Time: 4-5 Days
Fraying Time (for a batch of 50g): 3-4 mins
Total Time: 5 Days 15 mins
Serves: Makes 150-200 gm
Course: Accompaniments, Vadiyalu

Ingredients:


Rice flour - 1 cup
Water - 5 cups
Green chillies - 3(Optional)
Asafoetida - 1/2 tbsp
Salt - for taste
Ajwain-1tbsp
Food color of your choice(Optional)

Method:


In a bowl, add Rice Flour in a bowl.Add 1 Cup Water with carefully. Mix it well and it should be lump free.Boil 3 Cups Water in a separate large vessel.When water starts boiling, Ajwain, 1/2 Tsp Salt or to taste and Hing.Add rice flour & water mixture and keep mixing it to ensure there are no lumps.Cook this mixture for 5-7 mins till it reaches dosa/idli batter consistency. At this stage, if the mixture seems uncooked add more water & cook it for few more mins.Switch off the flame once the mixture is cooked.Add Green Chillies Paste and mix well.

To make colored chips, divide the mixture in parts. You can also make plain white chips to avoid coloring.
Add few pinches of Orange, Red or You can use food color of your choice.Start with 1-2 pinch color and mix. Add more to get desired color. Do this step quickly when the mixture is hot.

Spread a clean cloth or bed sheet under Sun and then spread a plastic sheet over it. Ensure to use plastic sheet or chips will not come out .Spread the orange mixture while it is still hot on Plastic sheet using a spoon. Do not spread much or chips will become very thin after drying!Spread all the mixture in same way.Allow the mixture to dry for 1 day under the sun. You can also dry it in room under a fan.Remove chips from plastic on next day and turn it over and dry again. As chips are thick we will dry both sides. Ensure to handle chips carefully.These chips take 4-5 days for drying as they are thick. Ensure to dry them completely.Once it is completely dry, store it in air tight containers and use.You can store them in air tight container and use for 7-8 months.

Heat oil on high and put chips in small batches to fry. Ensure to fry on high flame. Lightly press the chips while frying so it will come up. Ensure to keep flame high or else chips will not expand.
Rice Flour Chips are ready to serve.

Rice Murukulu/Rice Murukku:

Make a soft and stiff dough and keep the dough covered and away from stove, else the dough will turn too dry.Squeeze out the murukku over a greased ladle and drop them gently into the cloth or on sheet(shown above picture).These fryums take 4-5 days for drying (depending on temperature and season). These dried chips can be stored for 7-8 months in air tight container and deep fried whenever required.

Tips:



  • You can make without chillies only with salt.

  • Food color is absolutely optional.

  • Fry them in hot oil until it just puffs up.

  • If you don't want oil fry you can use air fryer without oil you can fry these fryums. or you can use microwave oven.


Biyyampindi carrot vadiyalu:

For the Biyyampindi carrot vadiyalu follow the above Rice Flour Chips Method and add grated carrots or add carrots paste , Spread a clean cloth or bed sheet under Sun and then spread a plastic sheet over it.
