How to Care for Clay Cooking Pots using and cleaning
As you know earthenware utensils are good for health.So,that try to use more clay cookware by using our tips make easy to purchase,cleaning maintained clay pots.Traditional earthenware utensils are not glazed.Now along with traditional earthenware utensils available some ethnic varieties also which are glazed.Glazed and partially glazed pots are don't need seasoning and easy to use and washing.But i'm not preferred/suggest glazed pots because its has some harmful chemicals in it like lead which are banned by food corporation.However, you will lose some of the benefits the clay pot offers, like the ability to absorb water and circulate steam, which makes the meat moist and tender, and bread soft on the inside with a crispy crust. The unglazed clay is also alkaline, balancing the pH in the food, adding a little sweetness to acidic ingredients, such as tomatoes.If we are destroying most of the nutrition in food while cooking then what's the point of buying all the fancy modern utensils/glazed utensils.So,unglazed pots only good for health.Don't prefer for eye contact.

For purchase Clay Cooking Pots:
Make sure that chosen pots are lead free,choose from reliable clay cookware manufacture .Do not use pottery highly decorative dishware for food contact purposes because those items may contain high levels of lead.That causes several health problems.
Using Your Clay Pot:
Clay can be easily breakable handle with care,if suddenly dropped by hand it will break.Don't allow sudden temperature changes like first keep slow flame and evenly increase flame otherwise pot will be cracked.Be careful to handle when pots are hot.Food doesn’t react with pure clay and there are no toxic products to leach into your food.Don't pour cold water in it specially when it already heated.
How to season and soak clay pot:
If your clay pot is unglazed, you need to soak and season it.Pour water in the pot and leave it for 2hrs,if you don't have that much time you need to keep atleast 15mins it will bring the moisture to the pot so that allows the food to steam while cooking and the food doesn't dry out.Seasoning the pot is enhances the hardness and durability of clay cookware, making it more crack resistant and also helps get rid of the initial clay smell.This process prevents foods from drying out.Nutrient content is preserved when the Natural juices and flavours are retained in the pot.
How to be prepare to use clay pot for the first time:
Unglazed Clay pots need some preparation before use,before use clay pots for cooking pour water and keep 2hrs or keep overnight in bucket water.after soaking remove and allow it to dry thoroughly.Wipe all the unglazed areas of the pot and thoroughly rub it with oil,you can use any oil.Fill the 3/4 level water in the pot and heated with in slow flame or slow temperature oven for 2hrs.Wash the pot and store it in a cool, dry place.

Cleaning Your Clay Pot:
Depending on whether it has a glaze or not will determine how it should be cared for and cleaned.If you are using the dishwasher for washing the glazed, earthenware do not put in other cookware with it. The rubbing may cause scratches on the earthenware.The scratchy powdered cleaner for cleaning your earthenware. Use only a mild soap or mild hot water and baking soda.Baking soda will also help remove odors and freshen the cooker after cooking pungent foods.Salt can be used as a nontoxic alternative to chemical cleaners. Sprinkle salt into the pot and scour it using a scouring pad. Rinse the pot with warm water and allow it to dry on.Soak well without soap to remove items stuck to your unglazed earthenware.if you use soap it will be absorbed by pot and it will cause prove poisonous while being used the next time.So,soak plainly and wash it by using scalding hot water and a stiff brush to clean the pot. Baking soda or salt may be used as a cleanser with a scrub sponge.For strong burn food strains filled with water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda, keep aside for overnight.
Storing Your Clay Pot:
After washing, make sure the pot is thoroughly dry before storing it. Store the clay pot with the lid off, allowing air to circulate. Or invert the lid and place a paper towel between the pot and the lid to prevent chipping. Store your earthenware in dry and well ventilated areas. This eliminates the risk of mold growth inside the pot.
How to use in oven:
Clay pots are sensitive to temperature change and they will easily cracked. so, it is important that you don't expose the cooker to extreme temperature differences. Never put the clay pot in a preheated oven.It should be always go into a cold oven.So,need to focus on environment where the temperature gradually increases.There are different clay pots designed to be used in different ways, before using it sure to read your clay cooker's instructions. Some are made for the stovetop and they can handle higher temperature, more direct heat while others pots are for the oven only.The temperature is recommended in the oven in between 190 °C and 250 °C ,moreover keep the temperature according to the recipe. Because wet clay doesn’t become as hot as metal baking pans cook for approximately 20 minutes longer, to compensate for the time needed to heat the oven.The sudden changes will be damages the pot,so carefully handle the earthenware.For clay pot cooking, the oven temperature needs to be set on average 40 C higher than normal. If the food takes longer to cook, use lower heat. If you want the food to brown and crisp, remove the lid during the last 10 to 20 minutes of cooking.place the pot on normal surface after removing from the oven.Placing a hot pot on a cold surface may cause the clay to crack.
How to use on the stove:
As mentioned clay pots are sensitive to temperature change. If you want to use on the stovetop, first you keep slow flame and thoroughly increase the temperature of the pot/handi.use a diffuser/a flat paddle used to spread out the heat evenly.It is helpful to spread the heat evenly.
How to use in refrigerator:
If you want to keep the pot in refrigerator you can keep but carefully after it came in to room temperature,you can store in refrigerator.After removing from refrigerator keep on normal surface don't keep on hot place that will cause the clay crack.
