A very simple fryum you could make with less effort in summer season.Apart from making pickles during summer time, making sandige /vadams /vadis and papads to stock up for the entire year is another big process in every south Indian home.As you all know , this summer i shared many such special recipes . In this series am continue with Sundried Steamed Rice Papad. It Also called as Aviri Vadiyalu. Aviri Vadiyalu is an instant sun-dried papad made with small steamed rice flour dosas. Aviri Vadiyalu dry in just a day because they have been steamed to remove moisture content. As a result, you can make these on any sunny day.They are ready in 1 day and do not need many days.

Sundried Steamed Rice Papad:

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 5 mins
Drying Time: 1 Day
Fraying Time (for a batch of 50g): 3-4 mins
Total Time: 1 Day 15mins
Serves: Makes 150-200 gm
Course: Accompaniments, Vadiyalu
Cuisine: Andhra Recipes, Indian

Ingredients:


1 Cup Rice, Biyyam
6 Spicy Green Chillies
2 tsp Cumin Seeds
2 tbsp Grated Ginger
Salt to Taste
Water, as Needed
Oil for Greasing

Preparation:


Wash and soak the rice in 2 cups of water for about 4 hours. Drain the water and grind to a smooth, runny batter (dosa batter consistency).
Grind the green chillies, ginger, and cumin together to a coarse paste. Add the spice paste and salt to the rice flour batter and mix well.

Method:

Take a vessel capable of holding 1.5 litres of water.Pour 1 litre of water into it and bring to a boil.Take a plate that fits like a lid onto the vessel.Grease it with a few drops of oil.Place the plate on the vessel with the boiling water.

Pour a small amount of batter and make a small circle(make like shown above picture).Cover with another plate and steam for 1 minute.

You know the vadiyam is cooked when it becomes translucent like above picture.Using a sharp knife, loosen the edges of the Aviri Vadiyam and gently remove it and place it on a plate or a plastic sheet.Grease the plate again and repeat the process of making the Aviri Vadiyalu.When all vadiyalu are steamed, sun-dry them for 1 day (At least 6 hours) in bright sunshine. They will lose all moisture and become crisp.Store in an air-tight container.

Tips:



  • If you dont want oil fry you can use air fryer without oil you can fry these fryums. or you can use microwave oven.

  • Serve with these fryums with rasam rice,samabar,lemon rice.

  • These can be served as an evening snack along with tea or as an accompaniment to meals,by sprinkle chat masala on fried fryums.

  • Instead of using normal rice you can use red rice or brown rice also.
