Chana Dal Idli Recipe
Idlis are usually made with Urad dal but this Idli made with chana dal.This is another variation of idli and made with chana dal and rice process is almost regular idli.Serve with sambar or tomato chutney or coconut or with gunpowder recipe chutney.you can pack this recipe for kids lunch box also.Kids ,elders everyone definitely enjoy this recipe.This is South Indian dhokla recipe.

Ingredients:
150 g Chana dal Bengal gram dal
100 g rice
2 green chilli
1 tbsp grated ginger
2 Dried Red chilli
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 sprigs Curry leaves
1 tbsp Cumin seeds
1/2 cup Spinach(optional)
Salt to taste
Preparation:
Wash chana dal/Moong Dal and soak it in water for 3 to 4 hours.Wash and soak rice in separate bowl for 3 to 4 hours.Grind them and mix both batters into same bowl to form a smooth batter. Cover the bowl with a lid and keep it for fermenting for 7-8 hrs in summer,In winter need some more time.
Method:
Before using Season the batter with salt, turmeric powder, green chilli and ginger paste.Grease the idli pan and pour idli batter in idli pan, stack all the plates like this
Place it in a pressure cooker or idli cooker with little water take care that water should not touch idli pans plate otherwise idlis on lower plate may become soggy
Steam them for 10-15 minutes and allow to cool for 5 minutes before demolding and serve hot with Sambar and coconut chutney or make mini fried idlis like tempering.
For tempering heat up ghee and add curry patta, mustard seeds and red chilli when it starts to splitter take it off heat and pour this tempering over idlis and serve it.

- Always cook idlis in medium flame don't cook idlis in low flame or in high flame.
- Add eno salt or baking soda before cooking.
- If you are cooking idlis in two batches make two different bowls of idli batter and make sure you add half part of eno salt(½ tablespoon) Add half part in 1st batch and add half part to second batch.
